Biography of David Vollan
Born
and raised in North Seattle, I moved to Olympia to attend
the Evergreen State College. I received a Bachelor of Arts,
with a focus in environmental sciences and policy. I also
spent 9 months living in Ecuador, which included studying
the music/culture of a small indigenous community. I worked
in the field of transportation planning for one year after
graduating from college.
I
have always been a "do-it- yourselfer", and I became
interested in green building as I became disillusioned with
transportation planning: it didn't feel like I was making
a big difference by working in the field. I suspected I could
have more influence on the built environment and its environmental
impacts by going into the private sector.
I
have worked for 7 years as a carpenter/remodeler in the Puget
Sound area. Currently I am the Education Chair for the Seattle
chapter of Northwest Eco Building Guild. My educational background
includes completing the Sustainable Building Advisor Program
and the Carpentry program at Seattle Central Community College.
When
I am not working, you can find me practicing my Scottish small
pipes or brainstorming my next home carpentry project. Occasionally
I can be found traveling in faraway countries from Thailand
to Grenada.
