High
quality green remodeling
Green Building means many different things to many
different people. I approach green
building from a holistic systems based understanding of
the topic, and I continually update my knowledge by
attending green building conferences and reading trade
journals. Not every green strategy is applicable
to every project, but many are. Please browse the
links on the bar to the left to learn more about a
particular topic.
The following is a little information about the many
topics which fall under the broad umbrella of green
building. I offer Green Building Site Assessments
where I evaluate the suitability of various green
building strategies and make suggestions to improve the
energy efficiency and indoor air quality of any home. I can
also provide the client with a general idea of the costs associated
with some of the strategies.
"Green"
materials
Not
all materials have the same environmental/health impact.
Products
with high embodied energy often contribute disproportionately
to global warming emissions.
Particle board can emit formaldehyde
for 30 years.
The backing material on many carpets
is composed of toxic chemicals
Products
with lower environmental impact include:
-
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood
- Cork and bamboo flooring
- Marmolium instead of vinyl flooring
- Cellulose insulation instead of fiberglass insulation

Efficiency
Pay
less for your winter heating bills, keep cooler in the
summer and reduce your green house gas emissions.
